The above photo was taken at the most incredible dance we've ever attended,
pictured are KeNyA, World Champion US DisAbled Ski Team Bronze Medalist
Dave
Wysong, and Neva caught up in the party mode. You know how at every dance
you've ever been to the first dance always has the fewest people on the floor,
folks are uncomfortable, worrying about what others will think, until the floor
is filled and they won't be noticed? Well at this dance it was the First Dance
that filled the floor to capacity, thinning out as the night wore on. No one
cared what anyone thought, everyone knew they were accepted. It was
awesome; people in wheelchairs danced, people with one leg danced, blind people
danced, and people from Los Banos danced:) By the way, the dance was after
the Awards Presentation at the 1999 World DisAbled WaterSki Championships.
Groovin' on a Sunday afternoon.
YES, would be Kent's answer. After such an awesome day of skiing, weary to the bone, you fantasize of stretching out in your own comfy bed. If you're California Campers like us you take your personal waterbed out and set it up near a pond for a good night's rest overlooking a slalom course:) This particular site was Tulle Gardens . . . Kent told them all his wife didn't like to camp . . . there is a great deal of truth to that.
Like her Daddy Honey, KeNyA loves to camp. This is the Princess Bed her
Daddy made . . . and we later took camping. She started out sleeping on
the top bunk, Mom and Dad on the lower bed; by midnight all three were together,
cramped, in the bottom bunk. The worst part about taking your bed camping
is that you have to set it up again when you get home, or else sleep on the
couch. This photo was taken at the DisAbled Regionals at Pleasant Oak Ski
Lake, 1993. The crowd was roaring as Former World Champion Steve Poulin
skied into/onto
the stage at Marine World, Africa USA while carrying the American Flag during
the National Anthem. Most of the crowd (many of them general public
witnessing the ski show) had never seen a DisAbled person ski. Steve's
exhibition on this date dramatically increased awareness about waterSkiers with
disabilities. GOT GOLD?
Mark "ANIMAL" Turner, Then again, maybe not! Mark thinks major holidays are for skiing, bar none. This was taken on Christmas Day of 1998. Our boat broke, which seemed
like it would prevent Mark from skiing. Not so, Kent drove along the levy
in Mark's Nissan Pathfinder with a ski rope attached to the trailer hitch.
Mark skied. He also forgot to zip up his drysuit completely so water
poured in through his shoulders; he was drenched.
Kent, Nev-A-Mom, and
KeNyA shared whatever extra clothing they had (quite a bit since they were
leaving for Redding right after the ski ride) in order to warm him up.
KeNyA's Tweety slippers warmed his blue toes, and her kitty gloves did the same
for his hands. I think it was the gloves that made him feel a little weird
. . . four fingers with little mice heads and one kitty . . . his hands were
fighting and scrambling to escape from one another:) I should probably mention
this was a pre-Gold photo also! You can click on a link below for more pictures.
