Aaah, the actual, actual farewell party. It was a very bittersweet
time, reminded me (on a much smaller scale) of taking my Mom home from the
hospital so she could die at home as was her desire. Couldn't change what
was going to happen, so make the best of it:) Didn't know how I'd get
through the weekend, but yet I did. Right foot, left foot, right foot,
left.
Our dear, dear friend Steve
Poulin drove 2 hours, to spend 2 hours (didn't even bring his
skis). We met Steve in 1993 at the DisAbledWestern Regionals, he began
skiing with us the following year, skied with us until
he moved to Elk Grove earlier this year. Steve's a true TEAM player
with an enormous heart. That's Kent, Neva, Steve and
KeNyA.
Wanting a picture before Steve left, I tossed a camera to a new friend from
KeNyA's new high school, Matt. Although he's a freshman, Matt's
a professional photographer, doing photo shoots with local skaters (for a
fee). Anyway, I tossed the camera, we did our cheesy pose (above) and
noticed Matt continuing to eat his sandwich. Hey he was really hungry, and
he's a teenager. Steve wanted this shot of Matt so we could tell the whole
story. By the way if ever want information about the Beatles, just ask
Matt. He loves the Beatles, knows lots about them, lots more than me and
they were hot when I was a youngster:)

Yep, that's a weird shot. Teen toes. KeNyA has this thing about
taking picture of groups of feet and she was in control of the camera this day.
The feet to the right are 2 Moms a Dad and 2 teens, Kim (Mom), Ryan (teen)
Ross (Dad) KeNyA (teen-1footed woo-woo) and Nev-A-Mom

Woo-woo! RayGene
learned to windsurf, kind-of sort-of. As you can tell there wasn't really
much wind, but she got up on the board and moved it around some. She may
"only" be a high school freshman but she is a phenomenal artist.
Check out just a little of her work by clicking on her name above. You'll
be awed.
Speaking of awed, that's what we were when the young Mecha m
family said they'd be coming to our farewell party. We met them at our
famous 1st DisAbledRegionals, attended their wedding a few years later and
delight with their adorable daughter Ski Lynn. Ski's parents are Tom and
Amy, wonderful humans that took this occasion, our farewell to come and join
us. We'd talked about it for 8 years . . . who said dreams don't come
true?
Yikes, you don't see this young man! His shirt says he's a fugitive,
but he's really one
of our members. Hmmm, I don't think he's trying to escape from us, well
maybe, sometimes. We're a very candid group and say what we think:)
I'm not sure which Ryan enjoys more, watching someone go "OTF" (out
the front - and that means being ejected out the front of a ski, typically in
somewhat of a Superman pose before a major crash. OTF's are exciting) or if he
enjoys being in the boat when someone runs a personal best. It's probably
a tie. He has the fastest RC (radio controlled) boat I've ever
seen, we all love to hear it just scream around the pond.
