Teen
mania, KeNyA, Kira, Patricia, Chris,
RayGene, Daniele, Matt and Michael were
working on a kick line, not perfect, but hey it's their first try. The may
not be ready for Broadway, but this was at the pond. The ducks were
impressed:)

KeNyA, Daniele (left) and Patricia (right) were cheerleaders last year for
Los Banos Junior High. KeNyA was a "flyer", the person they toss
around. The stunts they did last year were much better than this one, but
these three never worked stunts together. Their cheer squad did great last
year, competing at the West Coast Championships in Disneyland! In this
photo Nev-A-Mom is the back spot, and I have absolutely no clue what Kent Daddy
is doing. It looks like he's howling at the sun, or crowing like a chicken . . . KeNyA has a theory about that. She says "Did you ever
notice how when guys get in each other's faces they slam their chests into one
another . . . just like chickens?" Bawk, bawk, bawk!
We were
appreciative Mom and Dad Sandhagen joined us for awhile. (That's "Big
H", Kent's Dad alongside him.) My Mom never made it to the pond, too
busy, too ill, long drive, hot weather. I thought of her and Dave Wysong
for days before this party. It would have meant alot to have them join us
too. I phoned Dave's cell phone, knowing he died in March, hoping we might
hear his voice. No luck, it said the customer we were trying to reach
could not be located.
But we did locate "our" Paul
Hildebrant
who left our club to move to Oregon. He joined a
show ski team there and thought we might like to learn a trick. I was
game. It sounded cool and simple, we'd start off the dock with me sitting
on his shoulders, once we were skiing along I would wrap my legs under his
outstretched arms and lay straight back, arms straight out to my sides.
Matt's standing behind me for a back spot, just in case we didn't ski off the
dock and my head looked like it would hit the back of the dock.
Um, it didn't work so well. The first try I just rolled over backwards as
he started to stand, the next time I went over his front. The photo on the
left is about try 3 or 4. We were well off the dock but I think we just
lost the rope here. It was fun, entertaining (for all) and
interesting. My (KeNyA's) teen friends, did NOT want the responsibility of
being my back spot. I was never hurt or injured, neither was Paul.
KeNyA asked me not to try it anymore cause it looked like I could get hurt, and
she still needs a Mommy:) That's the interesting part, teens seeing into
responsibility "you're gonna poke someone's eye out with that thing",
rather than just seeing the potential for fun. For the record, I was never
scared, I saw the potential for fun. Hmmm.
Even
Super RayGene didn't want
to be my spot. I just love it that folks are free enough here at the pond
to just be, well, dorks if they feel like it. RayGene's no dork though, if
you can remember back to your own youth you'll recall that a cape of any sort
would allow you to run faster and jump higher. RayGene has the courage to
not care what others think, she needed to move fast . . . it was another day of
King of the Dock!

Harrump, they didn't want Nev-A-Mom to do tricks, but we should let the
children play? KeNyA and RayGene being KeNyA and RayGene at the Pond.
The teen kick line of KeNyA, Kira, Patricia, Chris, RayGene, Daniele, Matt
and Michael showing they're ready for "mean streets" or Broadway, well
if you look at the kick line again, maybe they're ready for Los Banos
Theatre:) (That's not a slam we LOVE our Arts Council and all they do,
KeNyA was in "Cinderella" in May, she's auditioning for "Alice in
Wonderland" next week . . . but this is Los Banos, not New York!
