One of the things we love about Living in Los Baņos, California (USA) is that we're almost the geographic center (north/south and east/west) of the state. Because we're a small town we don't have many of the cultural offerings the larger cities do . . . however we're well within a day's travel from some of the most beautiful country in the world!
Bronze Medalist Dave Wysong visited us in October of 2000 . . . he's got a great story about seeing the other side of this bridge. (This is the view most people can see.) Twenty plus years ago Kent worked as an embalmer at a Mortuary in Monterey, CA. During "Dave's 3 hour tour" Kent told us there was a back road (he'd picked up a deceased person from that area) that had magnificent scenery.
Adventurers that we are, we took the road, it took us an hour longer than the main road, but the scenery was indeed spectacular. It wasn't better than this magnificent view, but we'd already seen this on the south to Big Sur, the back road is inland, with different scenery. This journey was another KeNevA Adventure.

One January morning Kent suggested we go for a drive.....this is the Merced
River, part of which flows through Yosemite
It was an incredible day ... it started out clear, bright, beautiful, and then there was snow!
I suppose this is kind of backwards...this is the road from Merced (they call the Gateway to Yosemite) leading into Yosemite National Forest. Actually there is no suppose about it, it is backwards:)
Most of these Yosemite pictures were taken from inside the car! I don't know about you, but I'm impressed!
What a magnificent day! We left Los Baņos in beautiful sun shiny weather, it was the same as we approached, and actually toured the first parts of Yosemite, but the higher the elevation, the bigger change in the weather. We saw many types of beautiful weather. Do you recognize the big rock about to be covered by clouds?
Hmm, you know you've heard of this ... perhaps even seen pictures....
Yes, it's the famous El Capitan.
and as we left Yosemite I asked my husband to pull over so I could get a not moving shot of the Merced River.
As we passed through this magnificent splendor we wondered ... what, exactly, has the human created that can compare, or equal the beauty, the splendor, the simplicity, of nature.
